We've all probably seen the beautiful photographs of a mama with a beautiful baby bump in a milky bath with rose petals. Like many other people, I originally thought milk baths were mostly just for a good photograph, after all, it looks really pretty. After researching further, I've discovered there is so much more to milk baths than I ever imagined.
When you think of milk, what do you think of?
I think of something that is soothing- especially when I think of the skin & milk. There were many times I had given my oldest son a breast milk bath when I had breast milk that was in my refrigerator longer than was allowed for him to drink. I knew that the milk would be soothing to his skin because I had always heard "Breast Milk Heals Everything". The baths truly were soothing for irritated skin, diaper rash, and more. I had never considered a milk bath for adults until the last couple of years.
After the birth of my second son, I found baths to be especially soothing. I took baths during the fourth trimester and even found them to be a solace when I needed some "me" time. I took herbal baths, salt baths, and you guessed it... milk baths.
I prefer to use milk that comes from an awesome, happy, grass-fed cows or goats for my baths. For those who like to have alternative "milks" oat-milk is great, it is essentially oats blended with water and strained to make oat-milk. Oat's have tons of great properties for the skin, especially for eczema.
