After you read this, you will think twice about skincare!

Something that urks me to no end is the amount of chemicals that are in skincare products! I know plenty of people who will go to the mall or buy skincare products online from Bath & Body Works or Victoria's Secret.

First off, Victoria's Secret has body butter that comes in 6 ounces and they cost about $14-$26. (This comes straight from their website!) It is also filled with chemicals that are not good for your skin at all. All those chemicals that are in skincare products, deodorants, etc are all absorbed into your body! ALL OF THEM!  I will break it down for you below:

Some of the ingredients listed on the label...

Water- okay good

Cetyl Alcohol- What is that? Well it is used commonly in cosmetics & shampoos. This chemical works really well at making oils combine and stick together. Anything that says "alcohol" though will dry out the skin & hair. It is actually working against your body! It is even suspected as an environmental toxin- but testing is still being done. Read more here.

Ethylhexyl Palmitate- I can't even pronounce that...  It is used in tons of different cosmetics, but is known to clog pores, irritate skin, and make contact dermatitis flare up. It is uncertain about being an environmental toxin as well. Read more here.

DMDM Hydantoin: hmm.. well this one about knocked me out of my chair. This is antimicrobial formaldehyde release preservative.  There is a lot of evidence showing that it causes a lot of skin irritations. There is also strong evidence of it being human toxicant and/or allergen (Taken directly from Cosmetic Ingredient Review Assessment. Click here to read more.

Tocopherol- hmm.
This has been shown in larger amounts it can create tumors. Okay so large amounts, how many of you go through tons of moisturizer?

Triethanolamine- this took me forever to spell right.. This is a strongly alkaline substance and is commonly used as a fragrance and emulsifying agent... yuck.. This is what got me... In the Organ System Toxicity portion it is expected to be toxic or harmful.. yet it is apparently okay to add to food... Yeah I will talk about my beef with the FDA in another post! Read more here.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone: That is one heck of a mouthful. This compound is used as preservative and is widely known to cause allergic reactions... GREAT! It is restricted in Canada and Japan! This study (click here) says that this is known to cause contact dermatitis. This substance is even in paint! Nope not for me.

Alpha-Isometyl Ionone: This product has been banned in the European Union. It is a possible human immune system toxin (like we need toxic immune systems) and allergen. It is also suspected to be an environmental toxin. Click here to read more.

Those are just a few chemical explanations that are in Victoria's Secret's body butter & a lot of those chemicals are in other cosmetic products as well! Below you will see the ingredients to my body butters... and an explanation...

Ingredients:

Organic Avocado Oil: hmm heard of this one before.. the oil from an avocado. Avocados are known for their good fats, if you eat them they are great for your heart and gut. What about on the skin? Known for moisturizing, contains high amounts of vitamins b1, b2, a, & d. It is known to remove dark circles, treat acne, and many other amazing things! Read more here

Beeswax: well known once again! It is used to make the oil and water come together and become a "solid". It is known to lock in moisture, it is antibacterial, anti inflammatory, and even the Mayo clinic recommends it to be used in lip balms (which is used in my lip balms!)

Essential Oils: The benefits to these are endless! read more here.

Extracts: My extracts I make myself! Extracts extract the goodness from fruits, herbs, and plants! Think vanilla extract!

You can buy my body butter here! It is less expensive than Victoria's Secret Body Butter &you can pronounce all the ingredients and find them easily!
