Hypoglycemia is a form of diabetes where the blood glucose levels go much lower than normal. There are many causes for hypoglycemia, but the most common is type 2 diabetes.

There are many different ways you can handle hypoglycemia. You can go with the conventional methods that your doctor would probably perscribe- taking glucose tablets and getting glucagon injections in server cases, or you can go with holistic treatment.

The most common symptoms are:
  • chronic fatigue- feeling exhausted regardless of the amount of rest you get
  • craving sweets, caffine, and soda-pop
  • shakiness and light-headedness
  • chronic headaches
  • rapid heart beat
  • anxiety and panic attacks
  • depression
  • anxiety that is calmed after eating a meal

The adrenal glads, pancreas, and liver are very important in treating hypoglycemia. you want to take in the proper vitamins and minerals to support these as well. Take licorice root, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. Take magnesium and selenium for the pancreas and take vitamin B-complex and DHA for the liver.

Holistic Treatment:

How we treat hypoglycemia holistically is to eat 4-5 small meals a day and 1 serving of caffine a day- such as one cup of coffee or tea. I recommend that you stay away from processed foods. Eliminate instant foods from your diet like instant rice and instant potatoes. Do your best to keep alcohol to a minimum as well, the occasional drink is just fine. Don't skip meals! Even if you are trying to lose weight- do not skip a meal. This is a very important part of caring for yourself. Also try to not eat late at night, set a time for yourself to end eating for the night. A common time is between 6 and 8pm. Include protein in your lunch and dinner. Add a glass of milk or chicken to your lunch or dinner. Exercise is also very important when controlling hypoglycemia, it is important for many other reasons, but especially when dealing with hypoglycemia.

Here are some supplements that may help with learning to live with hypoglycemia:
  • Cinnamon- be careful with how much cinnamon you take because it is also known to lower blood glucose levels.
  • Licorice Root- this is great when controlling your blood glucose levels.
  • Sarsaparilla- this contains cortin, a hormone that is secreted from the glands. If your body doesn't create enough cortin it can easily get ill.
  • Garlic- this is a great and tasty way to help bring your blood glucose levels up!
  • Dandelion Root Tea- dandelion root is great in stimulating and supporting the pancreas
  • Blueberries- not only an antioxidant but they hold a good amount of natural glucose that will help your body deal with the hypoglycemia.

Also keep certain foods around that will help you if your blood sugar starts to get low such as raw nuts, fruit, vegetables, and fresh juices.
