I always cook my own beans. I buy them dried in the bag and then cook them! They taste much better and are way cheaper than the canned kind- not to mention healthier without the chemicals from the cans (buy glass if you can!)
I posted a picture to Instagram and Facebook and got a lot of feedback on it about how to cook your own beans so they don't taste dry. I even got questions from my post about saving money while living a healthy lifestyle. Well here is my tutorial!
In a large stock pot combine a 16 oz bag of beans and 11 cups of water
Set the burner to about 7-8
Wait for it to boil. Boil it for about 5 minutes and then turn the burner off and cover the pot. Let them soak for about 3-4 hours. Then turn them on about 4-5 heat and let them simmer for about 20 minutes. Then cover them and let them sit for another hour or so.
Pour them into a colender & then rinse them! You will have soft and yummy beans! Cook with them, put them in salads, make "refried" beans, freeze them, the possibilities are endless :)
