It is officially Autumn up here in Michigan and around here that means pumpkin everything, crunchy leaves, bonfires, chunky sweaters, and cowboy boots. For some it even means curling up on the couch and watching movies with girlfriends while drinking a hot beverage! One of my favorite hot beverages is tea, but I LOVE the Chia Tea Latte from Starbucks- but at $4 each- that can be a little pricey- plus not all of the ingredients are organic. So a couple years ago I started playing around with a recipe and came up with one that tastes amazing! This recipe makes more than one mug- so store it in a mason jar- drink it cold or rewarm it up!
What you need:
-Chai Spice Mix (2 tsp of this)
1 1/2 tsp. ground cardamom
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 4 or 5 Chai Tea Bags or Black Tea
-3 Cups Water
-2 Cups of Almond Milk or Coconut Milk (when made with almond milk it is a bit creamier than when made with coconut milk)
-2 Tbsp Raw Honey
What you do:
-I always start mine out by boiling the water in a tea kettle
-Next I put the milk, spice mix, and honey in a pot and begin warming it
-Once the water is to a boil- I put the tea bags in a glass jar and pour the hot water over them- let this steep for about 5-10 minutes depending how strong you like your tea.
-Next pour the milk mixture in with the tea
-Let it steep a few more minutes
-Pour into a mug and enjoy! You could even add some whipped cream to it if you want to get super fancy!
**This also works well when making a pumpkin spice tea latte- just switch out the chai spice mix with pumpkin pie spice! **
