Okay so everyone knows that Chocolate is supposed to be good for you, but people are usually unaware of the fact that most of the time- the chocolate you buy in stores is not good for you at all- and they don't know why.
Here is why- Chocolate, in the raw form is from cacao beans. It is bitter and sweet all at the same time. You can find the powder in the baking aisle of your store. Make sure you read the ingredients and make sure that the only ingredient is cacao. When you buy chocolate bars in the store first off they are cooked at high temperatures which kills all of the good stuff in the cacao itself, and then they add a bunch of chemicals and sugars to make it more desirable.
I am one of those people who LOVES sweets. So being that I am a health coach, drugless practitioner, personal trainer, etc- I have vowed to find healthy sweets. As you probably have read on this website I use honey as a sweetener most of the time. I love honey. Especially the raw honey that I buy locally. I don't enjoy the honey that you often would buy at the large grocery chains. This honey has to be cooked in order to be put on shelves and I just am not the biggest fan of the taste.
So without further due- here is my recipe for making healthy chocolate snacks!
1/4 C Organic Coconut Oil
1/4 C Cocoa Powder
2 Tbsp Raw, Local Honey
Optional for add ins:
-1 ingredient peanut butter or other nut butter
-Slowly, warm the coconut oil. Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, but it will quickly turn to a liquid over some low heat. Take off the heat as soon as it is liquid form.
-In a glass measuring cup, put the coconut oil, add the honey. Mix together well.
-Add Cocoa Powder and whisk together.
-I used the mini cupcake sleeves to mold my chocolates- you could use something else if you wished.
-First I filled a few molds about 1/3 of the way and then put them in the fridge for about 10 minutes so they could solid up some.
-Then I added 1/4 tsp of 1 ingredient peanut butter, then pour chocolate over the top.
-I chilled them for a total of 3 hours in the fridge- mostly because I had errands to run.
-I popped them out of the fridge and enjoyed them!
One reason this is a great way to get your chocolate fix is: you are eating coconut oil. Coconut oil has so many benefits, for your heart, skin, hair, eyes, etc. So this is a great way to get antioxidant rich cacao & coconut oil at the same time!
Enjoy! and you're welcome!
