I am a big advocate of cloth diapering for a few different reasons!
#1- They are the GREEN thing to do-- did you know that disposable diapers end up in landfills every year & most of them take years to break down. #2- You can save a boat load of money! #3- Babies with very sensitive skin usually benefit from cloth diapers! When I first found out I was pregnant, I started researching cloth diapers & their prices. I researched all different types of styles such as the All in Ones, All in Twos, Pocket Diapers, Prefolds & Covers, Fitteds, etc.. my head was spinning. I ended up finding someone on Etsy who makes cloth diapers & she had amazing reviews! You can see her shop here. LOTS of people have told me I would give up on cloth diapering & that I would hate it... Well YOU ARE WRONG! I personally love it so far & know quite a bit of mommas that love it as well! I ended up buying a dozen diapers from her and was so excited to start putting my son in them!! Then came the birth of my son-- he is a very tiny 6 pound baby! We used the newborn disposable diapers we were given for his baby shower for the first two weeks but then I became antsy.. Because diapers are expensive! We were spending about $25-$30 a week on diapers & I didn't like the way that was going! So we tried some flat cloth diapers and some prefolds with covers. My son didn't seem to be a fan of either. I quickly learned that there were different sizes of flat prefolds and I was using the toddler size because I had been given them for my baby shower. So I ordered some flat newborn prefolds and a newborn cover. My son was not happy, as you can see in both of the photos below. He usually cried the whole time I had him in them- which was irritating to say the least!
When I realized that the cover I had bought was for babies from 6lbs to 15lbs that got me thinking. My son was only 6lb 5oz at this time and still had a long way to go until he reached 15lbs. Even when I used the smallest settings for the snaps, he wasn't happy. So I began searching amazon for preemie diapers.
I happened upon Tiny Tush diapers. As I was reading about them in the description, their tiny tush mini diapers were for preemies or tiny newborns ranging from sizes 4lb to 10lb. So I bought one pocket diaper & thought I would give it a try. It came in the mail and I was floored! It fit my son perfectly on the smallest possible setting. The best part is he seemed quite happy and content in this diaper! WIN!! So then I went and found Tiny Tush online and ordered some mini cloth diaper covers, since my mom had ordered me some fitted prefolds to put under them. They came in the mail and once I figured them out, they have been great as well! My husband is even a fan of the tiny tush mini pocket diapers-- so we ordered some more! Right now they have a sale that is buy 5 and get 1 free! So we jumped on that right away! And can I take a second to talk about tiny tush customer service?? They are outstanding! I sent them an email with a quick question about the diaper covers when they arrived and Charlene was very quick to help! I also emailed back and forth with her with some questions about the diapers & ordering! She got back with me within an hour each time & was super helpful! I have never seen better customer service with any baby items thus far!
As you can see above-- these diapers fit my son so well! We are now saving so much money and have a happy baby at the same time!
Like I have said above, cloth diapering really can save you money! Since the beginning of my pregnancy my husband and I have spent $350 on cloth diapers & supplies to go with them. That $350 has gotten us the following: 12 Momgaroo Pocket Diapers (Size 10lb-2years) order here 5 No-name Pocket Diapers (Size 10lb - 2 years) 2 Rumparooz Newborn Covers (Size 6lb-15lb) 5 Tiny Tush Mini Newborn Covers (Size 4lb-10lb) order here 7 Tiny Tush Mini Elite Newborn Pocket Diapers (Size 4lb-12lb) order here 1 Preemie Cover from Green Mountain (size 4lb to 9lb) 13 prefitted prefolds 12 flat prefolds 2 snappies The diapers will have paid for themselves when our son is 16 weeks old & we will get to use these awesome diapers for our next child as well! I strongly suggest that everyone at least give cloth diapering a try-- even if it is only on the weekends when you are home and not working! You can buy them cheap & even used!
